SIT India: National Identity and the Arts

SIT India: National Identity and the Arts

About

Based in Delhi, a city with a rich artistic heritage and a lively contemporary arts scene, the SIT India Arts and Culture Study Abroad Program helps students develop an appreciation of India as a center of Asian civilization rather than a stereotypical nation beset by problems of the developing world. On the program, students explore the living legacy of an ancient civilization through its ever-changing traditional and contemporary arts community. Coursework coupled with field excursions to regional arts communities give students the opportunity to interact with local craftspeople practicing their traditional art form, while taking courses and living in Delhi. Students participate in a home stay, and then plan and execute an independent study project.
