Circumnavigator Club Travel/Study Grant

Circumnavigator Club Travel/Study Grant

About

Each year, Northwestern University and the Circumnavigators Club Foundation jointly award a fellowship worth up to $9000 for an around-the-world travel research project over the three-month period between the junior and senior year. Students apply during the fall quarter, submitting a proposal and preliminary itinerary according to the guidelines listed on the web site. The winner prepares for the research project during the winter/spring quarters of his or her junior year and spends the three summer months in actual travel and on-the-scene study. At the completion of the summer and upon return to the United States, the winner submits a paper on the project and speaks to at least two Circumnavigators Foundation banquets during the succeeding nine months.

Summer Undergraduate Research Grants (Summer URGs) fund independent academic and creative work in all fields of study.  Under faculty supervision, URG winners immerse themselves in novel scholarly projects in the laboratory, the library, or the studio, on campus and around the world.  Projects must be at least eight weeks long, and students may not do any outside work during this time period.

Grants provide a $4,000 stipend with additional travel funds available for international projects.
