Cardiovascular Health Research Internships-Bonnie Spring Lab, Preventive Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine

About

Dr. Bonnie Spring, a clinical health psychologist in the Department of Preventive Medicine at Feinberg, is currently accepting applications for fall 2019 internships in her lab. Summer Internships have been filled.

Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of research experiences within her multidisciplinary lab. See below for the current volunteer positions available:

Project: SMART Study, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Description: Obesity’s high prevalence and costs make it a public health crisis. This study optimizes a stepped-care approach to obesity treatment using inexpensive, widely available mHealth tools (smartphones and apps). Volunteers may help to recruit potential participants, take baseline measurements of study participants, and assist with many other aspects of this cutting-edge, clinical trial. Applicants who wish to support this project should have an interest in wearable technology, weight loss, and behavioral change.

Specific research/clinical duties for high school and undergraduate student research volunteers and interns include:

  • Data entry; managing participant data transfer; completing data quality assurance checks per study protocol
  • Posting flyers, making copies, assembling participant materials, organizing tasks, and lab upkeep
  • Conducting initial telephone eligibility screening and scheduling those candidates who meet basic study criteria for an in-person intake session
  • Obtaining study physician medical clearance when candidates present with specific medical conditions. 
  • Annotating video
  • Transcribing interviews
  • Data Verification 
  • Cleaning tech gear used in studies 
  • Literature searches
